In a meeting organised between Mr Damir Šehović, PhD, the Minister of Education, and representatives of the Montenegrin Foreign Investors' Council – Mr Christoph Schön, its President, and Ms Marija Šuković, the Executive Director – it was concluded that cooperation between the education system and the economy, aimed at creating opportunities for the acquisition of practical knowledge even during education, is of vital importance for education reform, the labour market and the economy as a whole.
The Minister, Mr Šehović, presented the directions of education reforms at all levels and stated that major changes are expected in higher and secondary education, fields in which support from industry would be appreciated. He familiarised Mr Schön with the Ministry’s plans related to increasing the scope of the practical knowledge that our students in secondary and higher educational institutions would gain in companies during their formal education, so that when they complete their school or university studies, they may become more competitive in the labour market.
Mr Šehović asked the Foreign Investors' Council to open up the doors of large companies to students from secondary schools and universities in a programme of dual education, and added that the Ministry of Education is open to more active cooperation and constructive proposals.
Mr Schön familiarised the Minister with the information that the Council had published the seventh edition of the White Book – a publication on the business environment in Montenegro, which also deals with the removal of obstacles for the growth and development of the labour market, closely related to the educational system.
He emphasised that the Council recognised the importance of education and that it would contribute to reform of the education system at all levels, ranging from preschool to higher education. Accordingly, the Council would consider ways of creating opportunities for young people to gain practical knowledge in its member companies, said Mr Schoen.
The interlocutors concluded the meeting with the statement that education is the driving force of overall development, and that in this respect, special attention is required not only from the relevant institutions, but also from commercial entities.
