The MFIC and Montenegrin Chamber of Commerce reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Montenegro’s alignment with EU business standards — an essential move to attract foreign investments and strengthen the Montenegrin economy. This key message was emphasized during our meeting with Gert Jann Koopman, Director-General of Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations, who led the European Commission delegation during his official visit to Montenegro.

The meeting was attended by Tamas Kamarasi, President of the Board of Directors at MFIC, Arijana Nikolić Vučinić,  Executive Director at MFIC, and Nikola Vujović, Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce of Montenegro.

The President of our Board of Directors, Tamas Kamarasi, shared an update on Montenegro’s macroeconomic status: steady GDP growth surpassing the European average, relatively quickly recovery in terms of inflation, decreasing unemployment, and a thriving tourism sector. However, he also highlighted potential risks, potential inflationary effect from new fiscal stimulus and higher pressure on the government budget by increased public spending.

He presented key initiatives to enhance productivity which from the MFIC perspective would be important to increase competitiveness of Montenegro, including talent development, infrastructure improvement, improving the general business environment, and supporting the development of the SME sector. Moreover, he emphasized that collaboration, dialogue, and innovation remain crucial to ensuring Montenegro’s continued success.

Nikola Vujović, vice president of Montenegrin Chamber of Commerce presented the status of the business environment, based on the survey conducted in the second quarter of 2024. He said that this survey provides an empirical validation of the insights gained from daily communication with the business sector which serves as a strong argument when launching initiatives towards the decision makers in order to remove obstacles and improve the business environment.
