The second ‘MFIC Talks’ event focused on the recently adopted amendments to the Labor Law, with Naida Nišić, the Minister of Labor, Employment, and Social Dialogue, as the keynote speaker. Tamas Kamarasi, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the MFIC, moderated the discussion, which was attended by representatives of the MFIC member companies. This event provided an opportunity for some of the most prominent foreign investors to express their views and ask questions about how the new legal changes would impact the business environment and labor market in Montenegro.
Minister Nišić emphasized that the amendments to the Labor Law were designed to improve the business environment by clearly defining the rights and obligations of employers and employees. She added that the new law introduces a differentiation in minimum wages based on worker qualifications, which, with the support of employers, strengthens social justice in the labor market. She also highlighted the importance of the National Commission for Preventing Sick Leave Abuse, which will help uncover irregularities in this area.
Tamas Kamarasi, Chairman of the MFIC’s Board of Directors, reminded the audience that the MFIC Talks concept aims to bring decision-makers and foreign investors closer together, providing a foundation for establishing quality dialogue and fostering greater cooperation.
“The adopted amendments to the Labor Law directly impact the overall business environment in the country. Therefore, it was crucial to receive additional clarifications from Minister Nišić today and to align the views of our member companies. I am pleased that the Minister supports and understands the importance of dialogue between the government and the business community, particularly in the legislative process aimed at encouraging investment and contributing to Montenegro’s sustainable economic development,” said Tamas Kamarasi.
In her remarks on the adopted amendments to the Labor Law, Minister Nišić further clarified certain provisions that were of particular interest to the MFIC member companies. She specifically addressed the issue of hiring seasonal workers, announcing a new “Permanent Seasonal Worker” law that will allow for more flexible employment in sectors such as tourism and agriculture, where labor shortages are prevalent. This law aims to increase employment rates and improve the business environment by more efficiently regulating seasonal work.
